A delightful and moist dessert perfect for fall, these apple brownies are topped with a sweet maple glaze for an extra touch of flavor.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped (about 2 cups)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup powdered sugar (for the glaze)
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (for the glaze)
1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)
Pinch of salt (for the glaze)
Instructions
Prep the oven and pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
Mix the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
Make the wet mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.
Combine: Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples—don’t overmix, or the brownies may turn dense.
Bake: Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden and slightly crisp at the edges. Let cool completely in the pan before glazing.
Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth and pourable. Add more milk a teaspoon at a time if needed to thin.
Finish: Drizzle the glaze generously over the cooled apple brownies. Let set for about 15 minutes, then slice into squares and serve.
